New Delhi: The National Medical Commission has withdrawn its recent circular regarding the renewal of the MBBS curriculum. This may hamper the NMC’s attempt to introduce new guidelines to reform the curriculum.
The NMC had, on 2 June, issued detailed guidelines about the changes that needed to be adopted in the syllabus.
The students were instructed to adopt a family, in their first year of study itself. For this, the college was instructed to conduct medical camps in rural areas. However, in the circular that was published on 12 June, the NMC has emphatically stated that the guidelines in the previous circular stands ‘withdrawn and cancelled’ with immediate effect.
Moreover, this circular had also recommended a new set of guidelines. But, the commission had withdrawn this circular too. Meanwhile, the commission authorities noted that the project isn’t shelved and that a renewed set of guidelines would soon be published.
Besides the family adoption programme, the cancelled circular contained details about the number of employees that are required in the research departments in the medical colleges and the procedures for admitting persons with disabilities to the MBBS courses. These are likely to be replaced in the new set of guidelines to be published.
