Delay by the General Education Department authorities in Kerala is likely to cause much trouble to students who cleared Class 12 under the state board and are now seeking admission to the IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology).

The cut-off mark out of 500, which is equal to the top 20 percentile in the Class 12 board exam, has to be submitted by the respective authorities after JEE (Advanced) for IIT admissions. If the board fails to submit the cut-off mark, each student should obtain a certificate from the board mentioning that he or she has obtained the top 20 percentile. In case the student is unable to present the certificate, the IIT admissions officials will consider the CBSE’s cut-off marks for the year in each category.

As of June 26, Kerala had not submitted its cut-off marks.

The CBSE’s cut-offs this year are (out of 500): General category 431; Backward 416; Scheduled Caste 397; Scheduled Tribe 377; and differently-abled 377.

The following were last year’s cut-off marks: General 436, Backward 429; Scheduled Caste 414; Scheduled Tribe 396 and differently-abled 396.
