Thiruvananthapuram: The first-year higher secondary and vocational higher secondary classes in Kerala began on Wednesday.

"Plus-One classrooms should be cleaned, and necessary arrangements should be made by this evening," Education Minister V Sivankutty directed school authorities on Tuesday.

In schools, meetings involving Plus-One students, and their parents should be organised. The school working hours, disciplinary instructions, and things to be taken care of in terms of health, awareness against drugs, etc can be explained in these meetings. The phone numbers of the school, the principal, and the teachers in charge of the class should be provided to the students. The phone numbers of parents should also be collected and kept by the teachers in charge of the class. If the student does not attend the class, the teacher should call the parent and enquire about the reason.

Status of admissions

The deadline to obtain permanent admission for those who got allotment in merit-reserved seats in schools through the single-window system is 4 pm on Wednesday.

The admission with regard to the second allotment through sports quota was completed on Tuesday. The first phase of admission to aided management and community seats and unaided seats will also end on Wednesday.

Supplementary admission

The supplementary admission process for the vacant and additionally allotted seats will begin this week itself. Those who already got admission will have the opportunity to change the school and combinations.

The supplementary admissions will also be completed on August 4.

Extra-class

A meeting of department officials chaired by Education Minister V Sivankutty directed that extra-classes should be arranged to compensate for the classes lost by students who get late admission through supplementary allotment.

Last year, the Plus-One classes had started only in August. Since the classes are commencing early this time, students will get more than a month's extra study days.
