Thiruvananthapuram: The fifth-semester Bachelor of Commerce examinations for the distance education candidates of Kerala University have come under scrutiny as a majority of the 30 candidates who appeared for them scored zero marks and the rest managed one to three marks.

The matter came to light when the University published the results for the paper 'Fundamentals of Income Tax' under the B Com Corporation course, on June 30. Some students who actually appeared for the exams were found marked 'absent' in the university records.

The candidates who appeared for the examinations at Kariavattom campus of the Kerala University, Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram, and NSS Women's College, Karamana, had to face this situation.

The students who gave a complaint have been told to file applications for revaluation. Tuesday is the last date to apply for revaluation.

The students pointed out that the results for revaluation from first semester have not been published yet. Meanwhile, most students have got good marks and have passed in the sixth semester exams.

Vice Chancellor Dr Mohan Kunnummal has ordered the Examination Controller to present before him in person and give an explanation on the incident latest by Wednesday.

Earlier distance education candidates who sat for the BA Malayalam course had failed en masse as examination papers were not evaluated at all.
