Four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts:Application closes on Wed

Online applications have been invited by University of Kerala and Calicut University for four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts courses with specialisations in painting, sculpting, applied arts and art history as well as visual studies.

The last date for application is July 12, Wednesday.

Eligibility
Those who have passed Plus Two or equivalent examination in any stream can apply for the course. There is no minimum-mark criterion. The applicants should have completed 17 years as on December 31, 2023; there is no-upper age limit for applying for the courses.

Programme details
In the first year of study, the students have to learn a few common subjects before choosing a specialisation in the next year. The specialization would be finalised in the beginning of the second year after considering the student’s performance in the university exams and his/her aptitude.

Seats would be reserved in 1:2:3 ratio for sculpture, painting and applied arts. Candidates who have opted for art history would be directly admitted into the course in the first year itself. The annual fees would be around Rs 3,200.

Colleges
1. College of Fine Arts, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram – 695 033, University of Kerala. There are 44 seats up for grabs here.
2. Raja Ravi Varma College of Fine Arts, Mavelikkara – 690 101, University of Kerala. Here 41 seats are available.
3. College of Fine Arts, Thrissur – 680 020, University of Calicut. There is a total of 48 seats. Art History course has seven seats up for grabs here. The applicants must express their interest in the application itself.

The reservation guidelines set by the Kerala government would be followed for admission to the professional colleges. 5% seats have been reserved for persons with disabilities. At least one seat would be set aside, at any college, for the ward of ex–service men in Kerala. Meanwhile, two additional seats would be available for the transgender persons.

Selection process
There are four sections in the aptitude test including a writing section and a practical test. Those who are applying for painting, sculpture and applied arts should attend the First, Second and Fourth sections. This test lasts for four-and-a-half hours and carries a total mark of 225.

Candidates who opt for art history and visual studies need to take the second and third sections. The 75-minute test carries a total marks of 105.

However, those who are trying for all the four streams should attend the four sections. The exam of 305 marks is for five and half hours.

The exam centres are at Thiruvananthapuram, Mavelikkara, Thrissur and Kozhikode.

How to apply
Online applications could be submitted in the website www.admissions.dtekerala.gov.in. There is an application fee of Rs 600. Meanwhile, it is Rs 300 for Scheduled Caste/Tribe categories. The applicants should upload all the necessary documents. Make sure to keep the printed copy of the application; however, there is no need to send it via post.
