Medical entrance test qualifiers interested in pursuing MBBS at the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, could register on the website of the Medical Counselling Committee from 20 July onwards.

The applicants must have registered for the AFMC course during the application for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) and have qualified the test.

The registered candidates need to pass two with 50% marks each in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, must have 60% for the three subjects in total and should have 50% marks for English. They should have completed 17 years of age as on January 31, 2023; the candidates shouldn’t be above 24 years.

There are 145 seats for Indian citizens; 30 seats are reserved for women candidates and 10 for Scheduled Caste/Tribe categories.

There will be no relaxation in the minimum eligibility or age criteria.

A total of 1,880 candidates — 1,490 men and 390 women — would be short-listed for the screening, from the list of those who have submitted options on the MCC website. They should reach the centre in Pune, with their original documents, as per the schedule published on the websites www.afmcdg1d.gov.in and https://www.afmcdg1d.gov.in/.

ToELR
In Pune the candidates also need to attend the half-hour computer-based ToELR test in which there will be 40 multiple-choice questions of two marks each from English, Comprehension and Reasoning sections. Half marks would be reduced for each wrong answer.

(ToELR denotes Test of English Language Comprehension, Logic and Reasoning.)

Ranking
The total of 800 marks — 80 marks of the test and 720 marks of NEET — would be divided by four in order to convert it into 200.

The final ranking would be determined by adding the marks scored by the candidates, out of fifty, in the interview round.

Candidates who have participated in sporting events, National Cadet Corps and the wards of serving soldiers would get weightage in ranking. Besides, there will be a detailed medical examination too.

Course
The training would be absolutely free of cost to those selected. Those who successfully complete the MBBS course would be inducted into the Army as commissioned officers.

After completing the MBBS, half of these candidates would be given permanent commission in the army, based on their excellence and aptitude. Meanwhile, the other half would be given Short Service Commission.

The students can opt for higher courses like post-graduation or super speciality courses after serving for a stipulated period of time.

The students are required to sign a bond of contract. If the students choose to pull out of the course, seven days after securing admission, they should pay a fine of Rs 65 lakh.
