GATE score will be mandatory for scientist appointments, says DRDO

In a major announcement regarding appointments, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has said that it will conduct direct recruitment to Scientist-B level posts solely based on GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) scores.

Candidates also will have to take a written exam and face an interview after the preliminary selection, said the DRDO on its website https://drdo.gov.in

The new guidelines announced by DRDO apply to all subjects in GATE for scientist appointments such as engineering/life/humanities/social sciences.

Earlier, graduates from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) were given exemptions regarding GATE scores. However, the new recruitment guidelines have taken away this benefit.

DRDO said that it will soon publish the notification of Scientist-B recruitmentor 2024 on its recruitment and assessment website (www.rac.gov.in) and ‘Employment News’ magazine. ‘Manorama Thozhil Veedhi’ also will have details of the recruitment.

Prospects of DRDO career
A candidate joining DRDO as Scientist-B can rise up to the post of Chairman. Institutions under DRDO include National Physical & Oceanographic Laboratory in Kochi; Aeronautical Development Establishment and Centre for Artificial Intelligence & Robotics in Bengaluru and Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences in New Delhi.

GATE 2024 dates
Applications could be submitted for GATE 2024 on the website https://gate2024.iisc.ac.in till September 29.

Applications will also be accepted till October 13 with a late fee.

GATE will take place on February 3, 4, 10 and 11 next year. There are 21 exam centres in Kerala.
