Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala University has invited applications for its four-year degree programmes, being held in the state for the first time.

The courses in Politics & International Relations, Economics, and History, are conducted at its Kariavattom campus.

Students who are joining the courses can opt out of the programmes with a BA graduation degree after three years. The applications can be submitted until September 30.

Successful candidates who obtain the BA (Honours) certificates can directly pursue higher education, including a PhD, without joining the Master's program.

Admissions are based on scores obtained in Plus 2 examinations this year. There are 30 seats for the courses. From next year onwards, an entrance test will be held to allot admissions.

All students need to do the basic courses in the first three semesters (one and a-half years). Thereafter, they can choose three main subjects.

The classes will commence by the second week of October.

The state government had earlier announced that the new four-year courses would be launched from the academic year 2024–25 onwards. However, Higher Education Minister R Bindu clarified that the universities that have already developed the four-year programmes would have the option to offer them on an experimental basis in the current academic year itself.
