School parliament elections to be held on Dec 1

Thiruvananthapuram: The General Education Department in Kerala has announced the schedule for school parliament elections, and the voting will take place on December 1. The elections, which are intended to create a democratic spirit among school students, are normally held in September and October.

However, there was a delay this year, which was reported by the ‘Malayala Manorama’ newspaper on November 20, following which the Education Department issued an order announcing the dates for the elections.

According to the order, students who wish to contest the elections can submit their nomination papers until 3 pm on November 27. The scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place until noon on November 28, and the papers could be withdrawn at 3 pm on the same day.

The final list of candidates will be published on November 29. The voting will be conducted until 11 am on December 1, and counting will take place in the respective classrooms until 1 pm. The office-bearers of the school parliament will be elected at 4 pm, and the first session of the parliament will also take place on the same day. Meanwhile, it is pointed out that the election process is likely to be affected in some districts where the school arts festival would be held on these days.
