It’s time to apply for admission to PhD programmes at two leading institutions in Kerala, the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) in Thiruvananthapuram and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode.
RGCB
Thiruvananthapuram-based RGCB is an autonomous institution functioning under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. Applications could be submitted for admission to PhD programmes in Diseases Biology, Neurosciences, Plant Science and BioInformatics at the institute till January 4.
Eligibility: Applicants should possess a postgraduate degree with at least 60 per cent marks in life / environmental/agricultural sciences / veterinary / pharmaceutical / medical sciences or related subjects such as biochemistry, biotechnology, bioinformatics, biophysics, chemistry and biology. The minimum mark is 55 per cent for candidates belonging to Scheduled and differently-abled categories. They also need qualifications such as UGC / CSIR / ICMR / DBT / DST-INSPIRE or equivalent JRF with a validity of five years.
Candidates should not exceed the age of 26 years as of January 1, 2024. Relaxation in age is available for Scheduled and disabled categories.
Those who are awaiting UGC-CSIR results also can apply.

The preliminary list of selected candidates will be published during the second week of January. Interviews will take place in the third week and admissions are scheduled to be completed by the fourth week.

IIM Kozhikode
PhD in management is available at IIM Kozhikode with specializations in the following eight subjects: economics/ finance, accounting and control / humanities and liberal arts management /information systems /marketing management /organizational behaviour and human resources /quantitative methods and operations management / strategic management.
Eligibility - Candidates having the following qualifications can apply:
Post-graduation or an equivalent degree in any subject (MA, MSc, MCom, ME, MTech, MBA, MCA or MPhil) with at least 55 per cent marks.
Chartered accountancy /cost accountancy /company secretaryship or equivalent bachelor's degree with minimum marks of 50 per cent.
A four-year or eight-semester bachelor’s degree with at least 75 per cent marks.
Candidates belonging to Scheduled, Disabled and Backward and economically-weaker section categories have a five-percent concession in minimum marks.
Students who are appearing for the final exams and commerce professionals who have completed their courses also can apply. However, they should clear the final exams by June 30, 2024, and produce their certificates by December 31.
Another condition says that candidates need a test score of CAT, GATE, GMAT, GRE or UGC-NET not earlier than three years before the last date to apply.
