Thiruvananthapuram: The Protector of Emigrants (PoE) under the Ministry of External Affairs has advised Indian citizens seeking employment abroad to confirm that they are seeking the services of authorized agents for the purpose. PoE also said that the maximum fee, including Goods and Services Tax (GST) which recruiting agencies could collect for their services was Rs 35,400. The agents also had to issue a receipt for the fee, PoE added.

The circular from PoE pointed out that complaints regarding recruitment to countries such as Canada, Israel and Europe have been rising recently. “The agents who operate through social media lack licence from the External Affairs Ministry,” it said.

PoE further said that Indians seeking employment abroad should confirm details regarding the recruiting agencies on the website www.emigrate.co .in before approaching them. Approved recruiting agencies had to display their licence number in the office as well as in advertisements.

People can approach PoE’s offices functioning at the NORKA centre at Thycaud in Thiruvananthapuram (phone: 0471-2336625) and Panampilly Nagar in Kochi (0484-2315400) for complaints and enquiries regarding foreign recruitment.
