The year 2024 is a promising one for individuals aspiring to secure government jobs through recruitment by the Public Service Commission (PSC). Numerous opportunities await candidates this year, including the position of a last-grade servant for 7th class qualification; LD clerk and lab assistant for 10th class qualification; civil police officer, civil excise officer, firewoman, beat forest officer for Plus Two qualification; and sub-inspector and LSGD secretary for degree holders.

It is a year in which individuals with any qualification have a chance of obtaining a government job. It is rare for so many different posts to be announced in the same year.

On Monday, the PSC released the exam calendar, incorporating all the tests notified in 2023. The PSC has eliminated the practice of conducting the two-stage examination system of the preliminary and main tests, which has proved to be a hurdle for candidates until last year. While the two-stage examination will continue for posts that require a degree qualification, for others, there is a golden opportunity to secure a government job by taking a single examination.

Those writing the PSC exam for the first time and others who have been preparing for the tests for more than two or three years may find themselves in this group. Both groups should take a pledge in the new year that “I will secure a government job this year”.

Remember that this commitment is not to be forgotten after two days but is to be upheld with every heartbeat. Happy New Year to everyone.
