Urgent recruitment: UK recruiting 2,000 doctors from India

New Delhi: The National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom (UK) has initiated urgent measures to recruit 2,000 doctors from India to address the serious crisis faced by the health sector of that country.
The NHS has announced an easing of criteria related to language proficiency in order to increase the intake of doctors in the UK. Moreover, centres will be opened at Kozhikode and other places in India to provide training to doctors.
Selected doctors would be trained for a period between six months and one year at private hospitals. Doctors completing this training successfully will be given concession in the eligibility exam conducted by the Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) and appointed in hospitals in Britain.
