Kochi Metro
Preliminary work is on for the metro rail extension to Kakkanad in the hope that a central government clearance will be available soon.

The Kochi Metro will resume services from September 7. The train services will resume after being suspended for 168 days due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

The services have been suspended from March 23. Kochi Metro authorities said they are fully equipped to resume the services.

Trains will run from 7 am to 8 pm in 20-minute breaks. COVID restrictions will be fully complied with. All areas of the stations where passengers touch will be disinfected every four hour. Use of Kochi One card will be promoted to encourage maximum cashless transactions.

Currency notes will have to be deposited in cash boxes installed at the counters. Only sanitised currency notes will be given in return.

CCTV surveillance will be used to ensure that the passengers follow social distancing norms.

The decision to resume services was taken following the central government's guidelines issued on Saturday. The government has allowed to open Metro services in a phased manner from September 7 as part of easing the lockdown restrictions.
