Drishyam directed by Jeethu Joseph broke all box office records to emerge as one of the cult classic thrillers in Malayalam cinema. Now, Jeethu Joseph’s latest social media post, beautifully depicting the evolution of the protagonist Georgekutty and his family, is grabbing attention. In just three photographs, Jeethu summarised the glorious growth of the instalment in the last 12 years. The dining table scenes from ‘Drishyam’ 1 and 2 are posted along with a similar shot from ‘Drishyam 3’ that has gone on the floor.
The three photos have Georgekutty, his wife Rani and their two daughters Anju (Ansiba Hassan) and Anu (Esther Anil) having food at the dining table in their home. Anju and Anu were school children in ‘Drishyam’ that was released in 2013. They were filmed as teenagers in ‘Drishyam 2.’ In the recent pictures, Anju and Anu have grown up. These dining table shots clearly depict the changes that had happened in the family after they survived difficult times following a murder.
‘Drishyam’ tells the gripping story of Georgekutty, a cable TV operator with only a fourth-grade education, who outsmarts the police after a fatal blow leads to the death of Varun Prabhakar. IG Geetha Prabhakar and constable Sahadevan relentlessly pressure and torture Georgekutty’s family in an attempt to extract a confession. However, their aggressive tactics ultimately lead to Geetha's resignation and Sahadevan’s suspension. Though the family manages to evade legal consequences, they continue to live under the shadow of emotional and psychological trauma caused by the incident.
In the sequel that was released six years after the release of ‘Drishyam,’ Georgekutty is financially well off, owns a theatre and has even produced a movie. But, his elder daughter Anju still struggles with the trauma that the incidents from the first part have caused. Georgekutty’s sudden financial growth and the suspicious nature of the case add fuel to the gossips among the people in the locality. Meanwhile, the police manage to find a new witness in the case. Although the IG who is investigating the case is able to deduct that Georgekutty may have buried Varun’s body underneath the new police station, the latter outsmarts the police again. He proves in the court that the case sounded similar to a screenplay that he had written. Georgekutty secretly sends Varun’s mortal remains to his parents for them to perform his last rituals.
Georgekutty may have escaped the law, but he is burdened by the weight of this secret and must protect his family. Meanwhile, the fans are eagerly waiting for the third part of the movie. ‘Drishyam 3’ is likely to be the last movie which will decide the fate of the family. The audience are curious to know whether Georgekutty will save his family from a new crisis or surrender before the law.
