Thrissur: While the district was simmering at 40 degree Celsius, the girls of Vimala College took it upon themselves to offer a glass of freshness to wayfarers. As part of their golden jubilee celebrations as an initiative of the NCC 7 Kerala girls battalion, the girls of the college, guided by their English department professor K.N. Lauji, undertook the noble endeavour of distributing _sambharam_ (spiced buttermilk), the perfect antidote for summer heat. The college principal Dr. C.V.L. Mary inaugurated the event. An initiative that also made the girls aware of social obligations, it was carried out to a grand success. The cooling _sambharam_ rejuvenated the pedastrians, kids coming back from schools and auto drivers who were out for most part of the day. Vice president Dr. C. Marriott, staff secretary Dr. P. Asha Rao (department of social works), NSS programme officers, Dr. Mimi Mani Panackkal, Dr. Manju Madhavan were the prime coordinators of the event that became a huge success.
