Kozhikode: The tasty beetroot masala filling is what makes the masala dosa unique and special at the Indian Coffee Houses in Kerala. However, the online trolls didn't spare this iconic dish as well. That is what prompted the authorities of the Indian Coffee House to give its masala dosa a face lift.

"From the very beginning, we have been using beetroot in the filling of the masala dosa. The unique masala with its bright red colour was indeed interesting. However, around two years ago, when the dosa became the subject of online trolls, we tried the ordinary potato masala in yellow colour, which is usually served at all the hotels.

But we could continue it only for 3 days. We had to go back to our good old beetroot masala as the customers began to complain. For us, the interests of our customers are what matters the most. Hence we stick to the original recipe with beetroot," said P V Balakrishnan, president of the Indian Coffee Workers Society which runs the Indian Coffee House outlets in the Malabar region. He added that the beetroot masala filling won't be taken out of their 'masala' dosa even if price of the beetroots goes up.

The 28th outlet run by the society was inaugurated by minister T P Ramakrishnan, at the M R Complex in Maankavu. The secretary of the society V K Sasidharan said that the society was struggling since the inception of GST. He added that the society has already paid Rs 4 crore as GST. However, luckily, there hasn't been any rise in the prices of the food items that are served at the Indian Coffee Houses.
