Kudumbasree food products to add flavour to Onam fairs

Alappuzha: The Kudumbashree mission is all set to make the Onam festivities a grand celebration by serving authentic and organic food items. This year's Onam fair which comes after the state has been ravaged by the flash floods, would be a means of survival for most Kudumbashree workers.

The 79 CDS units in the district would take part in the Onam fairs that begin in all pachayats next week. All the units have been asked to make at least one product to be sold at the fairs. Meanwhile, a mega fair would be conducted for the units that come within the Alappuzha municipality limits.

From unadulterated curry powders to crisps and pickles, the Kudumbashree units will be ready with an array of food products. The preparations will be overseen by the officials of the block panchayats. The fairs conducted in the rural area are to be given a grant of Rs 12,000, and Rs 15,000 would be given for the fairs held in the urban centres. However, these amounts would be given only if the fairs are conducted for at least 3 days.

The big fairs aim to collect at least Rs 1 lakh and the small fairs would try to collect a minimum of Rs 50,000. Meanwhile, the fair would begin on 1 September at the centres where a greater demand for the products is expected.

Preparations

The food items to be sold at the fairs are ready at all the units. The district authorities said that the preparations are underway to take over the Onam market. Besides the outside customers, around 2.5 lakh families that registered at various Kudumbashree units have been instructed to purchase at least one item at the fair. The list of products required to be sold at the fair is being prepared by the district coordinators. The products would be supplied to the various centres by the district coordinators.
