Unappealing eatouts and unimaginative foods would definitely lead to a mid-week crisis, not to mention the overload of work to attend to. However, if you had been with us, following our lent specials this week, you'd certainly refrain from saying that! The Holy Week has lent us the opportunity to surprise you with vegetarian culinary delights, and so far, the variety proved to be high on taste and easy in the kitchen! Out Wednesday specials are due and they are once again, a sparkling mix of toothsome goodness and native gastronomy that appeals to a large number of people who are nodding a firm 'No' to meat till the run up to Easter. Our lunch has two stars—the rich and healthy red rice is our staple of course, and here comes the mashed jackfruit seasoned with shallots, curry leaves and other condiments. The jackfruit mashed is a favourite among Keralites with the fruit ruling the state in summer. Accompanying the main dishes, the tomato curry with Malabar tamarind is made specially to invoke a seafood déjà vu, that few other dishes can. A homely ginger pickle (_inji curry_) sends that meal to a burp-worthy finish. The dinner is packed with a lot of thought and care. The best bet with a Keralite is puttu, but this is no ordinary steam cake! A warm puttu olarthu, a native favourite, paired thoughtfully with creamy cashew nut curry and a sweet green gram stir-fry makes for one of the best dinners ever. So, get started!
