Kaniyappam is a special dish which has a prominent place while preparing the Vishu kani (offerings for Lord Krishna) in the Malabar areas. Here is the recipe of the soft and delicious kaniyappam.
Ingredients
½ raw rice (washed and powdered)
Pinch of baking soda
3 tsp sesame seeds
½ cup coconut shards
¼ kg jaggery
Preparation
Melt the jaggery
Into a bowl add the raw rice powder, sesame seeds and baking soda
Add water and mix it into dough
Into it add the melted jaggery and coconut shards
Mix well
Keep the dough aside for an hour for it to rise
Heat ghee in a pan
Roast the kaniyappam by flipping it.
