Cubes of yam, cooked and delectably flavored with whole red chillies and coconut is a hot favourite at the traditional sadya
Ingredients
300g yam
3 whole red chilli
20g coconut oil
20g tamarind
80g grated coconut
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 sprig of curry leaves
Salt, as required
Preparation
Clean and cut yam into small cubes
Boil the yam with salt and turmeric until it is well cooked
Broil red chilli and make a paste of the broiled red chilli and fresh grated coconut
Add the ground coconut paste to the cooked yam and cook till the aroma of the paste is released
Reduce to a thick dropping consistency
For tempering, splutter mustard seeds in coconut oil with whole red chilli and curry leaves
Check the seasoning and serve garnished with fried curry leaves and whole red chilli
