Healthy manikadala appam

Soft and healthy appam could be easily made using black chickpeas. This filling breakfast dish could be enjoyed with coconut chutney. Check out the recipe.

Ingredients
1 cup black chickpeas
¾ cup raw rice
¼ cup matta rice/boiled
3 tbsp grated coconut
¼ tsp baking soda
Salt as required

Preparation
Soak the black chickpeas for at least 8 hours
Soak the raw rice and matta rice too for 8 hours
In case you are using boiled matta rice, you could add it while grinding
After 8 hours, wash the black chickpeas and grind them with some water
Grind the soaked rice and coconut by adding some water
Mix the ground rice and black chickpeas in a vessel
Into it add the salt and baking soda
Mix well and keep aside for 10 minutes (or keep aside for 8 hours for the batter to rise)
Heat a greased dosa pan
Pour a ladle full of batter; do not spread it too much
Sprinkle some oil on top of the appam
Cook with the lid on
There is no need to flip and cook
Tasty black chickpeas appam could be served hot as it is or with chutney.
