Malabar special chicken vattichatu

This green chicken dish, prepared with green chillies and coconut milk, is finger-licking good and is a great combination with appam, porotta or chapathi. Check out the pretty simple recipe of Malabar special chicken vattichatu.

500 gms boneless chicken
5 tsp coconut oil
2 ½ tbsp ginger-garlic paste
10 crushed green chillies
¾ cup shallots
1 tsp pepper powder
200 ml of coconut milk
Salt as required
Curry leaves as required

Heat coconut oil in a pan
Sauté ginger-garlic paste, green chillies and some curry leaves
When the raw smell of these ingredients is gone, add the shallots
Sauté well
Now add the chicken pieces
Season with salt and pepper
Pour enough water too
Mix well and cook
Turn down the flame before adding the coconut milk
Cook until the gravy reduces
Stir occasionally
Turn off the flame when the gravy is reduced and the chicken pieces are nicely cooked
Garnish with some fresh curry leaves
Enjoy the rich and creamy chicken vattichatu.
