Soft and tasty idli could be easily made using big bananas and broken wheat. It is better to eat grains with bran to reduce the fat deposits and also to flush out the toxins from the body. Broken wheat is loaded with bran that is extremely nutritious. Meanwhile, big banana provides the energy that is required for the day. Here is the recipe of broken wheat banana idli that could be enjoyed as a filling breakfast.
Ingredients
1 cup broken wheat
2 big bananas
100 gms jaggery
½ tsp cardamom powder
A pinch of baking soda
Preparation
Wash the broken wheat well and soak for at least 2 hours
Prepare jaggery syrup by boiling jaggery in ¼ cup water
Squeeze out excess water from the soaked broken wheat
Mix the broken wheat with jaggery syrup
Grind this mixture into smooth paste
Grind the bananas separately without adding any water
Mix the broken wheat mixture with banana pulp, cardamom powder and baking soda
Add some semolina if the batter is loose
Grease the idli vessel with some ghee
Keep the greased idli vessel in the fridge for 5 minutes
Pour 1 spoon batter each in the idli vessel
Add some cashews and raisins too
Cook in steam for 10 minutes
This dish should be eaten by dipping in ghee.
