For this Onam, try this delicious apple and almond payasam recipe

Certainly, ada pradhaman, semiya payasam, and parippu payasam are classics, but shall we try something new for Onam this year? This special apple and almond payasam tastes delicious and is easy to prepare. 

Ingredients
1 cup almonds
1 litre full-fat milk/cream
1 cup milk
1 cup condensed milk or 1 cup powdered sugar
10 saffron strands
2 tsp cardamom powder
2 -3 tsp chopped cashews and pistachios
Water as required

Preparation
Soak the almonds for at least 6 – 8 hours
Peel the skin and grate the apple
Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pan
Add the grated apple to the pan
Cook until the water gets completely evaporated
Allow it to cool
Scrape off almond skin
Grind the soaked almonds in milk into a smooth paste
Meanwhile, boil the full-fat milk
Add the saffron strands when it boils well
Into it add the condensed milk or powdered sugar
Mix well
Now add the almond paste
Allow this mixture to bubble up
Add the chopped almonds, cashews, pistachios and cardamom powder
Keep stirring until the payasam thickens
Turn off the flame when payasam reaches the right consistency.
Finally, add the cooked apple
Give everything a good mix
