Do you like the taste of guava? If so, you should try the ‘guava cheese’ or ‘perad,’ a simple Goan aka Maharashtrian Christmas treat, this festive season. Did you notice how it sounds similar to the Malayalam word for guava, ‘perakka’? Here's the recipe of the delicious dessert:

Ingredients
1 kg ripe guavas
2 tbsp butter
1 kg sugar
1/2 lemon

Preparation
Cut the top portion of guavas and steam them for 20 minutes
Scoop out the part with seeds, and sieve them to remove seeds
Grind the hard parts of the guava, and mix it with the sieved centre portion
Add the guava paste and sugar into a vessel and heat it on a low flame, keep stirring it
After 15 minutes, add lemon juice
Add butter after 30 minutes, stir it till the mix is thick enough to form small balls out of it
Grease a plate with ghee, pour the mix over it, and even out the top surface
Keep it aside for overnight
In the morning, cut them into pieces and enjoy
