Tapioca with clam meat aka 'chippy kappa': A unique culinary delight

Tapioca has always been a versatile food item that can transform into anything from a simple boiled tuber that can be enjoyed with chutney to yummy chips or five-star dishes like paal kappa. Now, a new tapioca dish is doing the rounds on social media – chippy kappa or tapioca with clam meat. The dish was introduced on the Instagram page called 'puleekkar' and it has been winning some attention too from food enthusiasts. Here's how to prepare the dish:

Ingredients
1 cup washed and cleaned clams
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp chilly powder
1 tsp chopped ginger
1 tsp chopped garlic
15 shallots
Salt
1 cup grated tapioca
1 tsp coconut oil
1 cup thick coconut milk
1 egg
4 diced green chillies
½ cup diced coconut

Preparation
Peel, wash and grate the tapioca and keep it aside
Thoroughly wash the clam meat to remove any grit attached to it
Add finely chopped garlic, ginger, shallots, a quarter teaspoon of turmeric powder, a teaspoon of chilli powder, and salt as needed
Mix well and set aside for half an hour
Place a clay pot on the stove, and when it becomes hot, heat coconut oil
Transfer the clam meat into it, mix well, and cook it covered for ten minutes
Put the grated tapioca, coconut milk, and an egg into a bowl
Add finely chopped green chillies, some turmeric powder, and salt as needed
Mix well
Transfer the cooked clam meat to this mixture and mix thoroughly
Finally, add diced coconut and mix it
Spread the remaining cooked clam meat on top and cook it in a steam
A delicious tapioca with clam meat dish will be ready in just 20 minutes
Serve it after cutting it into portions once it cools
