To promote fitness alongside healthcare, a fitness centre with modern equipment and facilities for the doctors, students, and employees of the TD Medical College was inaugurated today in Alappuzha. The centre is set up in the old library hall of the Medical College. The college authorities claim that the modern fitness centre is the first of its kind in a government medical college in Kerala.

The centre is sponsored by Dr Tomy Paul Kalaparambil, professor of radiology at Michigan State University, USA, who is also an alumnus of the college. Rs 25 lakh was spent for setting up the modern fitness centre at the TD Medical College. The hospital's former principal, Dr B Padmakumar, said that the fitness centre will help students relieve academic pressure.
