Changanassery: In a tragic incident, a man who reached the Changanassery railway station to see off his daughter was crushed under the train, while his daughter suffered serious injuries when she jumped out of the moving train.

Palathra Joy, aged 62, of Vadakkekkara in Changanassery, had helped his daughter Athea (21) to board the S4 coach of Kanyakumari-Bengaluru Island Express around 4.30 pm and was getting out of the compartment when he slipped and fell into the space between the train and the platform.

The train soon began moving and Athea, a third-year student at Rajagiri College of Engineering, Kochi jumped out of the train seeing her father falling on the track. She suffered serious injuries.

Other passengers stopped the train by pulling the train and Joy and Athea were rushed to hospital. However, Joy could not be saved. Meanwhile, Athea, who suffered head injuries, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Changanassery.
