Kozhikode: A General Secretary of the Kozhikode District Congress Committee resigned from the party after allegedly being denied a ticket for the Corporation elections. NV Baburaj, a resident of Eranhippalam, held a press meet on Saturday morning to announce his resignation.

His primary allegation was that the party chose a non-resident as the candidate for the ward, ignoring KPCC guidelines as well as the list proposed by the Eranhippalam ward committee. He also claimed he was sidelined during the candidate selection process. Former councillor C P Saleem has been named as the Congress candidate for the Eranhippalam division.

“There are DCC secretaries and Youth Congress leaders living in this ward, but all of them were overlooked. The DCC president and some general secretaries are simply pushing their own favourites. They have effectively parachuted an outsider into the ward,” Baburaj alleged.

He added that he has no plans to join any other party for now.
