In view of the upcoming local body elections, the Kerala government has declared dry days from December 7 to December 11, and also on the counting day, December 13. The order follows a request from the State Election Commission to ensure a peaceful and fair polling process.

Polling will be held on December 9 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam, and on December 11 in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. Counting is scheduled for December 13.

Citing Rule 7(11)(vi) of the Abkari Shops Disposal Rules, 2002 and Rule 28A(vi) of the Foreign Liquor Rules, 1953, the order states that liquor sales must be prohibited for 48 hours before the close of polling and on the counting day.

Schedule of dry days
- Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam - From 6 pm, December 7, until the conclusion of polling on December 9.
- Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod - From 6 pm, December 9, until the conclusion of polling on December 11.

Additionally, December 13 (counting day) will be a statewide dry day. The restriction will also apply in the event of any re-poll.

During the dry days, the sale, distribution or consumption of liquor in hotels, bars, restaurants, clubs, and retail outlets is banned, and storage of liquor by individuals is also prohibited. The order directs the Excise Commissioner to enforce strict measures to prevent the illegal sale or transport of liquor.
