Ajith and Indu’s white-hued modern abode in the countryside of Ezhamkulam in Pathanamthitta, Kerala never fails to grab one's attention. It was indeed a challenge designing a comfortable house in the 10-cent rectangular plot. Most people would think that it would be practical to build a box-style house to suit the shape of the plot. However, here, the family decided to try a unique style that is space-efficient too. So, the structure has been designed in an ‘A’ shape as they wanted a cute and compact house that would instantly draw eyes.

The beautiful house designed in 2000 sqft has a sit-out, living and dining areas, kitchen and two bath attached bedrooms on the ground floor. Meanwhile, the upper floor has a bedroom, a common bathroom, a workspace, a balcony and an open space. The interiors are simple and are adorned with lighter shades of hues that are aesthetically pleasing. The custom-made furniture matches well with the theme of the house. Interestingly, matte finish tiles have been used for flooring in the interiors including the common areas and the bathrooms.

There is an in – built shoe rack in the sit-out that is decorated with amazing indoor plants. The entrance door opens to a long hall designed in the open style. The living – dining areas and the kitchen are arranged around this area. You could catch a glimpse of the front yard from the kitchen.

The dining area is the highlight of the interiors. The in – built wooden panelled dining table is arranged around a small courtyard designed in the Buddha theme. Meanwhile, the huge glass window here brings in oodles of golden sunshine.

The staircase is built by paving wooden planks on GI frame. Interestingly, the first landing has been turned into a cozy sitting space. The glass window that lines the wall illuminates this area with natural sun light.

A quaint breakfast counter too has been included as part of the kitchen area. Cupboards have been avoided here to make the kitchen look and feel spacious. The counter is paved with nano white while the multipurpose sink is an interesting feature.

The balcony on the upper floor is the family’s favourite spot in the house. This area is perfect to relax while enjoying the amazing sights outside. The construction of this simple yet classy house, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on a budget of Rs 54 lakh.
