The first Nipah case of 2025 is being reported in Kerala's Malappuram district. A 42-year-old woman from Valancherry is admitted to a private hospital in Perinthalmanna, and the National Institute of Virology in Pune has also confirmed the infection. This is the third time that Nipah is reported from Malappuram. The previous Nipah infection in Kerala was also reported for a 9-year-old child in the district. A Nipah case was reported in Kerala for the first time in 2018. In 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2024 also cases were reported and around 21 people have also died of the disease in the state. Tips to prevent Nipah virus
1) Avoid contact with bats and sick pigs
2) Wash hands frequently
3) Maintain social distancing from infected people
4) Do not touch fruits with bat bites and fallen fruits
5) Avoid areas that are bat-infested
6) Disinfect pig farms, quarantine animals affected by the virus
