Traditional medicine systems have been part of various cultures for centuries, and, of late, even the World Health Organisation has been actively promoting them. According to their 2019 report, Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) is used in around 170 countries. Indian PM Modi, who recently attended the Second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine in New Delhi, announced that Ayush Mark, a quality certification label, will be launched today.  What is it all about?

What is Ayush Mark?
The label, issued by the AYUSH ministry, will be awarded to Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy products and services. Having the mark on a product means it follows quality manufacturing practices, uses standard raw materials, and is tested for safety. Though an Ayush Mark and its two levels of certification have existed for the past few years, the new label builds on them and aims to set a global benchmark for traditional medical products and services, according to Ayush sources in Kerala.

The PM will also launch the digital portal My Ayush Integrated Services Portal (MAISP), WHO's technical report on yoga training; the book'From Roots to Global Reach: 11 Years of Transformation in Ayush'; and a postal stamp on Ashwagandha, in today's programme. MAISP is supposed to be a master portal for the Ayush sector. For details, visit the website.
