Dr Ishan Avdhoot Shivanand Centre for Yogic Sciences and Holistic Development, a wellness institution, has been launched at IIT Ropar in Punjab. Its foundation stone was laid in the presence of 'Yoga of Immortals' (YOI) founder Dr Ishan Shivanand. The centre will integrate yoga and modern sciences and will also offer wellness activities such as meditation, yoga, mindfulness, and aerobics.

According to Dr Shivanand, scientifically validated yogic practices can help students handle stress, anxiety and burnout, adding that the centre will serve as a model for other educational institutions. It will also include daily yoga and meditation sessions, other faculty wellness initiatives, stress management initiatives, and research on holistic health practices.

A researcher and yogic scholar, Ishan Shivanand, put together YOI, which is apparently an evidence-based meditation protocol to help those plagued by mental health issues. It has many physical, breathwork, and mind-training elements and can help practitioners sleep well, eat mindfully, handle relationships better, and become high performers, according to its online portal.

IIT Ropar also announced the Dr Ishan Shivanand Scholarship for Gifted Youth, under which 10 fully funded scholarships will be awarded to students from underprivileged backgrounds.  Of these, five scholarships will be for undergraduate students and five for postgraduate students. Ahuja said the scholarships aim to ensure that talented students are not held back due to financial constraints and can focus fully on their academic growth.
