Kozhikode: Students have been reportedly getting phone calls from fraudulent gangs, who promise help to clear BTech exams of the Technological University if they are ready to pay money. The gangs are seeking Rs 10,000 per subject.
They are primarily targeting those students, who would need to clear just two-three subjects to pass BTech.
Modus Operandi
One or two students of a college are contacted by the gangs, who promise to get the students pass marks in supplementary exams.
The gangs also urge them to lure other students into this marks-for-money scam. The students are asked to give the register number, code of the subjects and the number of the answer sheets after they write the exams. They are also asked to transfer the money to bank accounts in north India.
Some students, who allegedly gave money in this manner, have cleared the exams, according to sources. However, it is not clear if this was due to the ‘deeds’ of fraudulent gangs.
The malpractice, known as ‘university paper chasing’, is being carried out, centring around the exam evaluation camps.
The Technological University had cancelled the third semester BTech supplementary exam after mass copying was done through WhatsApp groups at four colleges.
