BJP wins in Tripura, UP bypolls, Chattisgarh's Dantewada results to be out soon

Besides the bypoll results of Pala constituency, the results of byelections in assembly constituencies of Badharghat, Dantewada and Hamirpur in Tripura, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh respectively will be announced on Friday.

The Election Commission had announced byelections in four assembly seats in Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Tripura, and Uttar Pradesh last month. The ECI had taken the decision to hold by-polls after taking into consideration various factors like local festivals, electoral rolls, weather conditions etc.

The byelections are being conducted using EVMs and VVPATs.

The ruling Congress and main opposition BJP are locked in a direct fight in Naxal-hit seat. The bypoll at Dantewada constituency of Chattisgarh was necessitated after the death of sitting BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi in a Maoist attack in April this year.

Dantewada

The Congress candidate was leading by a margin of 2,778 votes in the Dantewada assembly bypoll where counting was taken up on Friday morning.

Dantewada was the only seat in the Bastar division which the BJP managed to win in the 2018 assembly elections, which brought the Congress to power after 15 years.

In the 90-member Chattisgarh Assembly, the Congress won 68 seats last year and the BJP 15.

Badharghat  

BJP candidate Mimi Majumder on Friday won the Badharghat Assembly by-poll in Tripura defeating her nearest CPI-M rival Bulti Biswas by a margin of 5,276 votes, election officials said.Ratan Das is the Congress candidate.

The by-election to the Badharghat constituency in Tripura was necessitated due to the death of ruling BJP MLA Dilip Sarkar in April this year.  

Hamirpur

In Hamirpur, BJP's Yuvraj Singh polled a total of 74,500 votes while Manoj Prajapati of SP got 57,300 votes. The BJP won the seat with a margin of over 17,000 votes. The Samajwadi Party came second while the BSP came third and the Congress stood fourth in the by-election.

The by-election at Hamirpur in Uttar Pradesh was necessitated due to the disqualification of sitting BJP MLA Ashok Kumar Singh Chandel following his conviction in a murder case.
