India reports first Omicron death as 73-year-old succumbs to virus

New Delhi: India reported its first Omicron death on Wednesday.

The deceased, 73-year-old Laxminarayan Nagar had tested positive on December 15.

He had been in hospital since.

Though he tested COVID negative on December 21, a genome sequencing result that come in on December 25 revealed that he was carrying the Omicron variant.

He died six days later, on December 31 at around 3:30 am.

He had received two doses of the vaccine and had no significant contact and travel history.
