New Delhi/Moscow: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday and is understood to have discussed ways to strengthen India-Russia ties further, reported PTI.

The meeting took place just hours after Jaishankar held wide-ranging talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, focusing primarily on boosting trade relations.

“India-Russia relations have been among the steadiest major relationships in the world since World War II,” Jaishankar said at a joint media briefing with Lavrov. He added that “geo-political convergence, leadership contacts, and popular sentiment” continue to drive the partnership.

Jaishankar arrived in Moscow on Tuesday to fine-tune preparations for President Putin’s proposed visit to India, expected in November or December.
