Cochin: Kerala is still reeling from the repercussions of the devastating floods that wrecked its homes a year ago. The tireless efforts of the society at large and the endurance of its people has helped the state recover from the disaster to an extent.

However, a full fledged recovery is not possible without a helping hand. 'Project 25 schools', the joint initiative by Cognizant Outreach and Round Table India was one such effort in the direction.

Ernakulam district Assistant Collector Madhavi Kutty, on Monday, participated in the completion ceremony of this initiative in Cochin and handed over souvenirs to the respective school headmasters.

Cognizant Outreach, the employee volunteering programme of IT services major Cognizant joined hands with Round Table India (RTI) to rebuild and restore the critical infrastructure in 25 flood-affected schools in Kerala. RTI is an internationally acclaimed forum of young professionals to contribute back to the society. The schools in the 'Project 25 schools' scheme were hand picked after much research from the flood-hit-districts of Wayand, Idukki, Kottayam, Allapey and Cochin.

Classrooms, toilets, and compound walls in these schools were rebuilt with a fund of Rs 1.26 crore raised by the two organisations through donations.

Cognizant Outreach

Apart from the 'Project 25 schools' initiative, Cognizant Outreach and RTI were also involved in helping the people of Allepey and Kottayam districts with food,clothing, drinking water and oother essentials during the flood.

Around 2000 relief kits worth Rs 80 lakh was distributed in the state as part of their efforts. Cognizant had also contributed a sum of Rs 2 crore to the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund.
