Kerala consumed liquor worth Rs 138 crore to celebrate Christmas

Thiruvananthapuram: The state-run liquor outlets have reported a record Christmas sale of alcoholic beverages worth Rs 138 crore in two days.

This is excluding the sale of liquor through bars in the state.

On Christmas Eve the combined sales of Kerala State Beverages Corporation (Bevco) and Consumerfed was a record Rs 76.5 crore. While Bevco sold liquor worth Rs 65 crore, Consumerfed posted a sale of Rs 11.5 crore.

The sale of liquor through Bevco and Consumerfed outlets on Christmas this year was Rs 53 crore and Rs 8.5 crore, respectively.

In 2020, the sale of liquor through Bevco outlets on Christmas Eve was Rs 55 crore. Its outlet on Power House Road in Thiruvananthapuram posted the highest single-day sale of Rs 73.54 lakh this year, followed by Chalakudy (Rs 70.73 lakh), and Irinjalakuda (Rs 63.6 lakh).

Among the Consumerfed outlets, Kodungallur reported the highest Christmas Eve sale of Rs 54.5 lakh.
