Keralites chug down liquor worth Rs 96 crore this New Year's Eve, sets another record

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala witnessed record liquor sales on New Year's Eve. Liquor worth Rs 96.86 crore was sold through the outlets of Beverages Corporation (Bevco) and Consumerfed alone. This is the highest-ever sale of liquor in the state on a New Year's Eve.

Bevco outlets sold liquor worth Rs 82.26 crore, while Consumerfed Rs 14.60 crore. January 1 being a dry day was another reason that led to the surge in sales on December 31.

Like the sales on Christmas Eve, the outlet along the Power House Road in Thiruvananthapuram topped in the sales on New Year's Eve as well with a business of Rs 1.07 crore. This is for the first time that a single day's sale at a liquor outlet is crossing Rs 1 crore.

The outlet at Palarivattom was at the second spot (Rs 81.34 crore), followed by Kadavanthra (Rs 77.33 crore).

The total sales at Bevco on the last New Year's Eve were at Rs 70.55 crore. This Christmas Eve, Bevco sold liquor worth Rs 65 crore and Consumerfed Rs 11.5 crore.

On Christmas Eve the combined sales of Kerala State Beverages Corporation (Bevco) and Consumerfed was a record Rs 76.5 crore. While Bevco sold liquor worth Rs 65 crore, Consumerfed posted a sale of Rs 11.5 crore.

The sale of liquor through Bevco and Consumerfed outlets on Christmas this year was Rs 53 crore and Rs 8.5 crore, respectively.
