Kerala records 2,560 new COVID-19; active cases at 19,359

ThiruvananthapuramThiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 2,560 new COVID-19 cases on Monday after testing 43,210 samples, taking its Test Positivity Rate (TPR) to 5.92% percent.

With 2,150 more recovering from the infection, the state now has 19,359 active cases.

The COVID-19-related toll reached 48,184 after 30 recent deaths and 41 previously undocumented ones were made officials by the health department, Health Minister Veena George said in a press release.

Of the new cases, 2,339 had contracted the virus through contact while 48 had come from outside the state. Among the contact cases, the source of infection of 157 is yet to be traced.

There are 16 health workers among the new cases.

The state has reported 52,54,974 COVID-19 cases so far. Of them, 51,86,737 recovered.

There are are 6 wards in 5 local bodies across Kerala where the Weekly Infection Population Ratio (WIPR) is above 10%. Strict Covid restrictions are being implemented in these regions.

Quarantine and hospitalization

A total of 1,04,506 people are under observation across the state. Of them, 1,02,281 are under home or institutional quarantine while 2,225 are in hospitals across the state. A total of 167 people were admitted in hospitals on Monday.

Of the active cases, only 10.4% are currently hospitalized.
