Kerala reports 17,755 fresh COVID-19 cases, TRP at 26.92%

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 17,755 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday after testing 65,937 samples, taking its Test Positivity Rate (TPR) to 26.92 percent.

The state now has 90,649 active cases after 3,819 recover from the infection.

The COVID-19-related toll reached 50,674 after 17 recent deaths and 89 previously undocumented ones were made officials by the health department, Health Minister Veena George said in a press release.

Of the new cases, 16,488 had contracted the virus through contact while 150 had come from outside the state. Among the contact cases, the source of infection of 964 is yet to be traced.

There are 153 health workers among the new cases.

The state has reported 53,60,708 COVID-19 cases so far. Of them, 52,18,681 recovered.

There are are 6 wards in 5 local bodies across Kerala where the Weekly Infection Population Ratio (WIPR) is above 10%. Strict Covid restrictions are being implemented in these regions.

Quarantine and hospitalization

A total of 1,95,338 people are under observation across the state. Of them, 1,91,286 are under home or institutional quarantine while 4,052 are in hospitals across the state. A total of 596 people were admitted in hospitals on Saturday.

Of the active cases, only 4% are currently hospitalized.
