Fire breaks out at IMA's bio-medical waste plant at Kanjikode

Palakkad: A major fire broke out at IMAGE, the bio-medical waste management plant of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Kerala, at Kanjikode here on Sunday.

The fire was detected at noon and fire force from Palakkad is attempting to douse the flames.

The plant that was commissioned in 2003 is situated on a 25-acre land.

The plant has five main buildings with as many incinerators, and a few small buildings.

The IMA said that the fire was contained and the situation is under control. In a press release, the IMA said the fire that had broke out in the bushes had spread to the plant.

The IMA said bags containing treated waste that were kept aside to be moved into an incinerator caught fire and spread out.
