Thiruvananthapuram: With COVID cases increasing, the state government has decided to impose lockdown-like restrictions on Sundays.
The cabinet on Thursday decided to have strict curbs in place on the upcoming Sundays, January 23 and 30.
Only essential services will be permitted on these days, the government has said.
The work-from-home system can be availed by government/private employees who are mothers of children under two years/ cancer patients/ with other severe diseases. They should furnish a health certificate issued by a doctor.
Apart from final year classes in degree, post-graduate courses and tenth and higher secondary, all educational institutions should switch to online mode. Even tuition centres are banned from offline schooling. If residential facilities operate under a bio-bubble system, offline classes are allowed.
A, B, C classification for districts
Restrictions will be imposed on districts based on the hospital admissions. On Thursdays, the health department must provide details to the disaster management authority that will classify districts into A, B and C categories.
In A category, a maximum of 50 persons are permitted for weddings, funerals and social, cultural, political and religious functions.
In the B category, social, cultural, political, religious and other public events are banned.
Religious gatherings should be held online. A maximum of 20 persons will be permitted for weddings and funerals.
In the C category, besides the restrictions that apply to districts in the B category, the functioning of cinema theatres, swimming pools and gyms are also banned.
At present, Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Kollam districts fall under the A category while Palakkad, Idukki, Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta and Wayanad are classified as B. There are no districts in the C category at present.
