Kerala records 45K new COVID-19 cases; TPR rises to 44.8%, active cases at 2.47 lakh

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala's COVID-19 Test Positivity Rate (TPR) rose to 44.8 percent on Saturday as it recorded 45,136 positive cases from 1,00,735 tests.

With this, the number of active patients in the state reached 2,47,227.

The state also recorded 21,324 recoveries in the past 24-hours.

The COVID-19-related toll reached 51,739 after 70 recent deaths and 62 previously undocumented ones were made official by the health department, Health Minister Veena George said in a press release.

Of the new cases, 42,340 had contracted the virus through contact while 128 had come from outside the state. Among the contact cases, the source of infection of 2,225 is yet to be traced.

There are 443 health workers among the new cases.

The state has reported 55,97,648 COVID-19 cases so far. Of them, 52,97,971 recovered.

Quarantine and hospitalization

A total of 3,85,516 people are under observation across the state. Of them, 3,77,086 are under home or institutional quarantine while 8,430 are in hospitals across the state. A total of 1,124 people were admitted in hospitals on Saturday.

Of the active cases, only 3% are currently hospitalized.
