Kerala reports 51,887 fresh cases; COVID toll climbs to 55,600

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Tuesday reported 51,887 fresh infections of COVID-19 taking the total active cases to 3,67,847.

Test Positivity Rate (TPR) on the day stood at 42.86% after 1,21,048 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Kerala added 1,181 more fatalities to the official list in addition to the 24 recent COVID-related deaths.

A health department press release said that in addition to 118 deaths that were included in the official list upon the Supreme Court's directive, 1,063 more were added following appeals.

So far 55,600 COVID fatalities have been reported in Kerala.

There are 5,32,995 persons under observation in Kerala, of whom 5,21,352 are in isolation at home/institutional quarantine centres and 11,643 are in hospitals.

On Tuesday, 1,330 hospitalisations were reported. Of the total active cases, 3.2% are in hospitals.

Meanwhile, Kerala reported 40,383 recoveries on the day with Ernakulam reporting the highest, 8,808.

Of the fresh cases, 47,612 had contracted the virus through contact while the source of infection in 3,602 remains unknown and 462 healthcare workers were infected on the day.
