COVID: Kerala logs 5,691 fresh cases; TPR at 10.01%

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Tuesday reported 5,691 new cases of coronavirus and 10,896 recoveries from the infection.

Test Positivity Rate (TPR) on the day was reported at 10.01% after 56,851 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Ernakulam reported the highest number of cases (1,041) among districts followed by Kottayam (655) and Thiruvananthapuram (615).

There are 53,597 active cases in Kerala.

COVID-19-related deaths in the state reached 64,403 after 10 recent deaths and 120 previously undocumented fatalities were made official by the health department.

Of the fresh cases, 5,211 contracted the virus through contact while the source of infection in 417 remains unknown. Besides, 44 healthcare workers and 19 others who came from outside were also confirmed with the infection on the day.

There are 1,45,465 persons under observation in Kerala, of whom 1,42,228 are in home/institutional quarantine while 3,237 are in hospitals.

On Tuesday, 491 persons were hospitalised in Kerala.
