Kerala's daily COVID-19 numbers at 18-month low; 1,223 cases reported on Monday

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 1,223 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, the lowest in eighteen months.

The previous lowest daily number was 1,140 reported on September 1, 2020

The number of active patients in the state dropped to 12,868 as 2,424 more recover from the infection.

The new cases were reported after testing 23,641 samples, taking its Test Positivity Rate (TPR) to 5.17%.

The COVID-19-related toll reached 66,263 after 4 recent deaths and 79 previously undocumented ones were made official by the health department, Health Minister Veena George said in a press release.

Of the new cases, 1,107 had contracted the virus through contact while three had come from outside the state. Among the contact cases, the source of infection of 101 is yet to be traced.

There are 12 health workers among the new cases.

The state has reported 65,13,312 COVID-19 cases so far. Of them, 64,33,365 recovered.

Quarantine and hospitalization

A total of 72,799 people are under observation across the state. Of them, 71,566 are under home or institutional quarantine while 1,233 are in hospitals across the state. A total of 181 people were admitted in hospitals on Monday.

Of the active cases, only 10% are currently hospitalized.
